Seanalytics participates in International Workshop on Ballast Water Management Exemptions
[2018-06-12] In early summer, an international expert group assembled in the historical buildings of the Danish Shipping Agency in Copenhagen (Denmark) to discuss methods enabling Ballast Water Management exemptions for ships operating in a confined region.
This so-called Same Risk Area Approach is supported by bio-physical models and expert analyses of dispersal and distribution patterns for non-indigenous species in a region of interest. Often this region of interest includes short-distance ferry lines connecting two countries. Here, Seanalytics offers expertise on appropriate data and tools for conducting such assessments as well as best practice guidelines when applying for exemptions. The workshop was supported by The Danish Maritime Fund and organized by Litehauz Marine Environmental Consultancy. The results of the workshop are currently revised and will soon be further communicated.
