Seanalytics deploys DNA-based observatories for alien and invasive species

[2018-06-13] After many years of pilot work and experimentation, Seanalytics starts to deploy the first DNA-based autonomous monitoring structures.

The main purpose of this observatory network is the surveillance and early detection of non-indigenous and invasive marine species in Sweden, but we will also be able to monitor other changes in marine biodiversity along the Swedish coastline. To this end Seanalytics has developed appropriate protocols allowing alien species to be detected at the earliest possible stage. Our protocols have been developed with international networks such as ASSEMBLE+ and follow reliable standards for sampling and analysis. Hence, all generated data will be comparable with data from other programs and neighbouring countries. During summer 2018, we plan to expand the network across several presumed invasive hotspots along the Swedish West coast.
